Possibly a half-penny of George I, AD 1714-1727. The obverse shows an unclear laureate and cuirassed bust right (the base of the bust is concavely curved, possibly more so that the busts of George I? The tie at the nap of the neck looks slightly wrong?). Obverse legend probably reads: GE[…] REX. The letters ‘R S’ are punch-stamped or incised over the bust. Reverse: Britannia seated left, 1771 in exergue, BRITAN-NIA. The coin has been hammered on its edge in six places, and then predominately in one place, struck twelve times with a sharp object. Obverse shows an extremely unclear bust or double bust right, with big hair and tied bow of laureate at nape of neck, which fills the field. Obverse legend reads []V[]/[]. Reverse and reverse legend is completely illegible. Die axis is uncertain, 6 o'clock would be expected if the above identification suggestion is correct. Weight is 8.20g, diameter is 28.8mm, thickness is 1.8mm.
