James II base metal “gunmoney” shilling, Sept 1689. The obverse shows the laureate head of the king facing left and reads IACOBVS II DEI GR[A]TIA. The reverse shows a crown over two crossed sceptres with XII above, Sept: below, I to the left and R to the right, and reads MAG BR F[R]A [ET] H[I]B REX 1689. There is a hole bored through the centre of the coin and there are bits missing out of the edges at the top and the bottom. Diameter 24.8mm, weight 3.54g.
