The obverse shows the crowned bust of the king facing right with VI (for six pence) behind, and reads IACOBVS [D G] MA BRIT [F]RA ET HI R[EX]. The reverse shows a square shield with 1624 above and reads QVAE DEVS CONIVNXIT N[EMO SEPERAT] (What God has joined let no man put asunder). The A & E of QUAE are ligated. Neither initial mark can be made out. Diameter 24.6mm, weight 2.45g.

Copper alloy Derbyshire trade token dating to around 1670. These tokens were circulated between traders and their local customers in almost the same way as coins of the realm. They took the place of small change when there were shortages but fell out of use when the government decided to introduce copper halfpence and farthings and prohibit traders tokens. The mass - with due allowance for heavy wear - does not make it seem likely this was a sixpence, the most commonly folded coin, but perhaps a smaller denomination. A Modern cast bronze Medallion of the German archaeologist Gerhard Bersu. On the obverse is Head of Bersu facing left, with the engravers initials 'EØ 54'. Modern copper alloy token. The token is oval in plan. In the centre of the token is a large number '5/' (five shillings). Around the perimeter, in capital letters arranged in two concentric rings are the words: [WELLS &] WOOKEY HOLE COOPERATIVE and on the inner [INDUSTRIAL &] PROVIDENTIAL [SOCY LIMITED] The reverse is plain. The society existed in 1868 as the National Archives hold documents of this date but further research could improve this dating. A similar token is recorded in Minnitt and Young (1990:88) no.219.
