Complete copper alloy Post-Medieval coin weight. The weight is roughly square in shape. The upper face has the raised figures 'X.V.s' below a crown and the reverse face has a circular groove around the outer edge with a raised sun symbol surrounded by lions and fleur de lis in the centre. A shiny green patina remains in some places, but the surface is fairly erroded and pitted. Weights bearing the sun symbol are for the spur ryal (or rose noble) of James I (Withers 1995, p.38). Those bearing the value XVs are for his 2nd coinage; 1604-12 and 3rd coinage; 1619-25 (ibid.).
