Post Medieval cast lead circular double faced weight. The obverse has a raised design of a laureate bust facing right surrounded by a ring of pellets in a raised line border. The reverse has a raised design of a cross; two of the quarters are raised and two inset, the inset quarters contain a pellet. It is 35.5mm in diameter, 5.5mm thick and weighs 52.22 grams.
The design of a laureate head was reintroduced onto the coinage in the 17th century by James I. The general style of the bust and weight suggests a late 17th to early 19th century date. It is an unofficial weight of the type…
