Silver coin. A possibly milled and very worn coin, with marks suggesting it has formerly been folded as a keepsake. The mass - with due allowance for heavy wear - does not make it seem likely this was a sixpence, the most commonly folded coin, but perhaps a smaller denomination. Other than signs of creasing, no detail remains on either side of the coin. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1690-1700
Diameter: 20.3mm, Weight: 1.52gms

Silver coin fragment. Probably a sixpence or fourpence of William III (1689-1702). Issue of 1696-1700. No detail remains on either side; a drilled hole of diameter 1.8mm may represent provision for suspension. About one third of the flan is lost on a straight break or fold. Diameter: 19.5mm, Weight: 1.01gms.

2004 T397
Two coins of William III, both dated 1697. Found together.

As official silver coins of England, they would have been made to the established sterling standard of 92.5% fine metal, so, in terms of metal content, they would certainly be potential Treasure.
In terms of value at the time of deposit, the sum of 1 shilling and sixpence was equivalent to a few pounds in a modern context, so the find represents a modest sum of …
