Probably a farthing token as the value is not given (as it almost always is on halfpenny tokens). Issued by Thomas Tompson at Guildford in 1657 and marked with the woolsack and castle from the towns arms. Williamson (1967: 1132, No.126) catalogues an identical example and suggests Thomas Tompson may have been a Quaker and was an "approved man" and Baliff of the town.Daniel Pett7-0.243632SUSS-360891215215Castle with central gate and three towersOF GILLFORD 16271TOKENTQ2338finds-215215160SUSS-368D713Complete1657images/lburnett/117175900148036A6B01E1142008-04-14T15:30:03ZWoolsackCertainx4104722008-02-01T00:00:00Z051.128082POST MEDIEVALCopper alloy41421PM136http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/POST MEDIEVALNon English coinCertain*THOMAS TOMPSOMCivil Parish182022-07-14T07:08:07.299ZWest Sussex1CountyStruck or hammered1Metal detectorsuss-0c9eb4.JPG164172008From a paper map16277PMDistrictCertain102SUSS1643816.86Restricted Accessx410471.61Arun10892Uncertain2011-02-24T13:49:34ZSouth EastPost medieval gold 1/2 Escudo of John V of Portugal (1706-1750), dated 1724Daniel Pett23Near Goring by SeaSUSS-0CBE46214095Laureate and draped bust facing rightNone1COINRestricted Accessfinds-21409510.9410SUSS-0C9EB4121724images/jefft/117031400147F0CB8601F8342008-03-31T12:31:18ZCrowned coat of armsCertainx4104722008-03-15T00:00:00Z0POST MEDIEVALGold41421PM136http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/POST MEDIEVALCertainIOANNES.V.D.G.PORT.ET.ALG.REX 1724Civil Parish2022-07-14T07:08:06.641ZEast Sussex1CountyCast1Metal detectorSUSS-004BC1.jpg26252008GPS (from the finder)26821PM2.34DistrictCertain4102SUSS267817.671800Restricted Accessx410472.5Wealden11094Uncertain2011-02-24T13:49:34ZSouth EastCircaDouble sided cast lead token. Cast lead tokens were simple to make and are therefore difficult to date precisely; generally those with initials are though to date to the post medieval period and a general date of c.1500-1800 AD is given.

Round silver disk, probably orginally a medieval or post-medieval coin. The design has been worn completely smooth and the item countermarked with an incuse crescent moon on one side and a 1 or I and two dashes on the other. Many post-medieval worn coins and foreign coins which circulated at other than their face value were countermarked in the post-Medieval period to indicate their nominal value.

The disc has been bent at right angles in two places giving a staple shaped cross section.
Probably a coin or token polished until illegible and deliberately bent to form a love token.Daniel Pett22FirleSUSS-5E3C21194378IllegibleIllegible1Firle Rally 2007: FIV-421COINRestricted Accessfinds-19437811100SUSS-176B44Incomplete1750images/lwilson/115118900146F176D20165F42007-09-19T20:21:54ZIllegibleCertainx4104722007-08-25T23:00:00Z0POST MEDIEVALSilver41421PM1Circa36http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/POST MEDIEVALCertainIllegibleCivil Parish2022-07-14T07:07:55.615ZEast Sussex1CountyCast1Metal detectorFIV-406.jpg26252007127481PMFind was described from a photograph. The token has a raised design of a roman capital W or M on one side. The reverse is blank. It has a small break and the soft lead alloy has been folded inwards here. The token measures 20.0mm in diameter, 1.7mm thick, and weighs 3.61 grams. Lead tokens were locally made and had a wide variety of uses; they are therefore hard to date precisely but those with initals are thought to be Post Medieval in date.
