Cast lead uniface 'token'. Incuse equal armed cross with midrib and central pellet. Slight rim on the reverse. Lead pieces such as this are common finds. Their function is uncertain but it has been suggested they were monetary tokens, pieceworkers tallies, reckoning counters, communion tokens or gaming counters (N. du Quesne Bird, 'Tokens or Gaming Counters?', Numismatic Circular, No.8, 1996 (Spink).
