The disc fragment measures 33mm in surviving width and c20mm in height. On one face, presumably the front face, there is the moulded torso of a man with one arm bent holding a sword at the ready, it appears to be a man in the mist of a sword fight. The other, probably back face, decpicts moulde…

The reason for this is unknown although other foriegn coinage, especially from Spain of this period was stamped so that it could be used in Britain with a bust, a parallel with the letter H' stamped on it cannot be found. A gold Portugese half Moeda with a value of 2000 Reis, of King John V (Ioannes) of Portugal 1706-50. One Moeda or Moedore meaning 'Port. moeda da ouro' or 'money of gold,' is normally worth 4000 reis, this type of coin is also sometimes called a crusado or cruzado because of the cross on the reverse, 1 crusado is worth 400 reis so our half moidore which is worth 2000 reis is 5 crusados. A complete lead token of circa 17th century date, the 17th century saw an upsurge in the use of lead or lead/tin tokens, this example is similar in style to an example from Exeter, which has a castle embossed on the obverse (Read, 1995, 139, no 872). A Suffolk example also of a similar style has been found in Bury St Edmunds it has a man on horseback on the obverse and lettering on the reverse, the letter 'W' can be seen and there are indistinct letters along one edge. No exact parallel could be found with a church on the obverse.
