Copper alloy Nuremburg 'Rechen meister' jetton. Some times referred to as 'school pennies', this type of jetton shows a rechenmeister, or accountant using jettons to do accounts on a chequered board or cloth (which is where we get the phrase Chancellor of the Exchequer). This example was issued by Hans Zwingel between 1553-1586. See Mitchener, 1988, jetons, medalets and tokens: The medieval period and Nuremburg, page 416, number 1427.
