Probable Post Medieval cast lead uniface token. The token carries a stylised design of a spread-eagled bird looking right. The reverse is plain. Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as use as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely. Those carrying intials are generally deemed to be Post Medieval in date (1500-1850 AD), those which seem to mimic Medieval penny designs are deemed to be Medieval, the remainder which carry stylised designs remain difficult to date but the…

A Post-Medieval lead token. The object is folded in two places, making the design difficult to decifer. One face may possibly have a cross in its centre, with a border around the outside containing an unclear design, or possibly even a legend. The other face is similar, but possibly with a geometric, flower-like design in its centre. Similar tokens can be seen in Egan (2005, p.168, fig.164) particularly no's: 892, 894, 895 & 896, which are all dated to the later 16th century, suggesting a similar date for this example.
