Probable Post Medieval cast lead uniface token. The token carries a stylised design of a spread-eagled bird looking right. The reverse is plain. Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as use as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely. Those carrying intials are generally deemed to be Post Medieval in date (1500-1850 AD), those which seem to mimic Medieval penny designs are deemed to be Medieval, the remainder which carry stylised designs remain difficult to date but the…

A Post-Medieval lead token. The object is folded in two places, making the design difficult to decifer. One face may possibly have a cross in its centre, with a border around the outside containing an unclear design, or possibly even a legend. The other face is similar, but possibly with a geometric, flower-like design in its centre.
Similar tokens can be seen in Egan (2005, p.168, fig.164) particularly no's: 892, 894, 895 & 896, which are all dated to the later 16th century, suggesting a similar date for this example.

Tokens like this were probably used as small change because the crown did not produce enough coins. The initial probably refer to the tradesman who issued the token.

Post Medieval cast lead alloy circular double faced token (1500-1850 AD). On one side is a raised K within a circle of pellets; the reverse has the raised initial I with scattered pellets. The edge has multiple indents but it is not clear if this is from casting flaws or later damage. The token measures 21.5mm in diameter, 1.4mm thick and weighs 3.77grams.
