A flat and square copper alloy coin weight. Much of the detail has been removed though wear and corrosion. The reverse of the weight appears to have the letters II // S (on two lines) and depicts a crowned capital letter I. These markings indicate that this weight dates from the reign of James I (AD 1612-19). It was used to weigh Unites of James’ revalued 2nd coinage. The surface of the weight is pitted and is a dark brownish-green colour.
