Medalet or counter, probably of Charles II of copper alloy 0.8mm thick with a diameter of 19mm, weighing 1.15g. The object is corroded and almost completely illegible. The reverse inscription may be QVATOR [MARIA VINDICO] which means I claim the four seas. This occurs on pattern farthings of Charles II. This piece appears to be a cheap medalet voicing the same sentiment. No parallel has been found.

A seventeenth century halfpenny minted during Charles II reign (1648-72). Under the Commonwealth there was no authorised copper coinage. As a result farthings, halfpennies and some pennies, were issued by towns and traders (Seaby. 1973: 180). On the reverse side of this example a square grid with sixteen square holes occupies the centre and is encircled by a dotted relief. An inscription occupies the outer rim. The obverse side has the letters ‘W’ ‘H’ ‘B’ which form a triangle, separated from each other by three five leafed flowers. Underneath the letters there is a ½…

Post medieval silver fourpence of Charles II, 18mm in diameter, 0.5mm thick and weighing 1.81 grams. The coin has a good silver patina and is only slightly worn. It has been bent in two places giving it an S shaped profile. This was probably done for use as a love token?. The obverse shows right facing bust. Inscription reads CAROLUSII DEI GRATIA. Reverse shows cross made up of intertwining C's with symbols of each kingdom in between (harp, thistle, rose, fluer de lis) with crown above in border. Inscription reads MAG.BR.FRA.ET.HIB.REX.1679
