A Modern cast bronze Medallion of the German archaeologist Gerhard Bersu. On the obverse is Head of Bersu facing left, with the engravers initials 'EØ 54'. On the reverse is the inscription GERHARD/ BERSU/ ZUM 65 GEBURSTAG/ VON SEINEN/ FREUDEN. The medal was presented to Gerhard Bersu, the eminent German archaeologist, on his 65 birthday. Bersu (1889 - 1964) came to England in 1935, having been sacked by the Nazis. While in England he carried out important excavations, in particular, the Iron Age settlement at Little Woodbury.
