Cast silver medal with decorative scrolled border pierced top and bottom for attachment to clothing. Double-sided: on the obverse a profile bust of Charles I , and with his consort, Henrietta Maria, on the reverse. The portrait types are well-known from Medallic Illustrations, I, p. 357, 223. Presumably made for a Royalist supporter in the Civil War or Interregnum. Compare TAR 2003 no. 274 in which a similar model has only the profile of Charles I with initials of a local supporter on the reverse. Mid 17th Century. As such, due to its age and precious metal content, this object qualif…

A square, copper alloy coin weight of postmedieval date. The weight is stamped with a left-facing, bearded and laureate Roman-type bust within a circular border on the obverse; the reverse bears the Roman numerals 'XX', surmounted by a crown. It is thus clear that the weight is for 20 shillings, and it is known as a'laurel'. Coin weights of this type date to the late 16th and early 17th century. Most can be dated to between AD 1620 and 1632. L/W 17mm Th 3.9mm Mass 8.1g
