An incomplete Post Medieval cast copper alloy possible mount, c.AD 1700-1800. This object is probably a piece of mounted decoration that has separated from a larger piece, although it is unclear what the original piece would have been. It is made from a flat, lozenge-shaped plate with a raised central lozenge on the obverse face, decorated like the scales of a fish. There is no decoration or makers' mar on the reverse face. The whole item has corrosion and a brown patina.

Copper alloy mount fragment. About one third of an openwork disc of estimated diameter 20mm. vegetal scrolls arranged in a left hand spiral form nested loops, with tiny fronds springing at intervals from their inner edges, the smallest in a series of diminishing size taking the form of circular loops terminating each element of scroll work. This pattern originated from a central circular panel separated into three concentric zones, of which the two outermost are subdivided or billeted by radially incised lines. The principal elements appear in plain and untextured form on the reverse.…

Copper alloy harness fitting. Cast ovular boss with a pelleted outer border enclosing a series of grooves and lines, culminating in a raised central oval. This central area may have been decorated in the past, but wear and deposition have destroyed any hints of decoration. The larger raised line that is placed at the shoulder of the mount is decorated by a closely-spaced series of fine diagonal lines incised into the metal. This would have appear bright and shiny when new, and was probably used as a piece of harness decoration. The reverse face has no decoration, or places w…

A copper alloy Medieval mount from an unidentified object, probably dating from about AD 1200 - 1400. The mount has a wide curved terminal at one end, like a broad hook, but too short to secure in an eye, apparently an edge binding clip from a larger object. In plan it has a tapering form, broadly triangular, with the body formed of three lobes and the rectangular clip. There is some damage or wear to one side giving the item an asymmetrical appearance. The lobes are divided by ridged projecting collars forming cusps between the lobes. The wider end forms the clip. It has a doub…
