Lead alloy toy tankard. Cast cylindrical model of a tankard, hollow, with an integrally cast moulded handle projecting from the mould line along one side. It is possible that other features were set opposite, where two surface irregularities may be either stubs from another handle or casting flaws. At least four rows of tiny moulded dots ascend the vessel wall, and it has a slightly expanded foot ring. Forsyth and Egan (2005, page 293 no. 8.128) illustrate a toy lidded tankard of 17th or 18th-century date from London. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1675-1775 Height: 23.7mm, Diameter (…

A fragment of a lead alloy Pilgrim Badge of Medieval date (AD 1450-1550). The badge would probably have originally formed a circular disc, with raised decoration on the face. Lead alloy and iron unidentified object fragment. Cast concavo-convex object moulded as the top of the head or frontlet of an antlered stag, with the stubs of two naturalistically modelled antlers rising from its crown. A possible garland of oak leaves may be represented round the base of the object as it survives. Rust and the possible relict of an iron object appear in the hollow base, which is broken all around. This object appears to have become detached from a figurative ornament of venereal [i.e. relating to hunting] interest, possibly a themed table decoration or similar. Severa…

Hollow-cast head and neck of a bridled horse modelled at a scale somewhat larger than 54mm/1:32, with a distinctively broad brow and protruding eyes and with a mane falling to one side. The scale and somewhat coarse modelling point to a product of one of the early 20th-century competitors of toymaker William Britains - Johillco made slightly larger figures - probably representing a mounted soldier or cowboy. Abraded. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1939 Height: 29.7mm, Width: 35.4mm, Thickness (wall of casting): 1.2mm, Weigh…

Drapery extends across separated breasts and falls in folds at the back, with the folds of the veil more prominently modelled still. The facial features are suggested, with ears visible below a lifted hairline and nose and mouth disc…

The figure is wearing a skirt, a belt, and a short coat, which was in fashion during the English Civil War and was worn by working women up to approximately the late 1600s-early 1700s.
