Copper alloy (tombac) decorated button. It is flat and solid, measuring 24.3mm in diameter and 1.1mm thick, with a small central cone at the reverse with the broken stubs of an iron loop protruding. The obverse has a shallowly stepped rim and a ropework border, surrounding an abstract incised design which may be intended to represent a flowering plant, but manages to convey the impression that the engraver was either drunk or had never seen one. Bailey illustrates several similar but rather better executed examples on pages 54 and 55, which are dated to the 18th century.
