An incomplete Post Medieval bone knife handle fragment, dating c. AD 1500-1700. The fragment is sub-rectangular and D-shape in cross-section, with a rounded face, broadly flat underside, tapering sides and rounded edges. It comprises one half of an oval-sectioned knife handle that is broken at one end, making it difficult to estimate how long it would have been. The narrow intact end is flatly finished and curves into the upper face. The two long edges are relatively straight with minimal damage except for some areas of wear. Part of the wider end may be the extremity. Part of the…

A bone finger-ring, probably cut from a long bone. It is ornamented with a pair of circumferential grooves around the outer edges, which enclose a double row of circumferential chevrons, rather crudely executed. The chevrons are uneven, made up of grooves which often do not meet. They are aligned so that the ups and downs coincide, giving the effect of a single zig-zag line outlined by grooves. There is a small area of damage to the ring, otherwise it is in good condition. The thickness of the band is uneven, although this is a common feature of rings of this date. Bone rings are qui…
