Two fragments of an Early Medieval brooch, comprising the lower half of the foot-plate of a Frankish copper alloy radiate-headed brooch. The foot is rectangular in plan and cross-section. The front is decorated with two pronounced longitudinal ribs with a narrower one between and to either side. The pronounced ribs are decorated with ring and dot motifs. A short bar transverse rib linking the two main ribs is visible just below the break at the top, and again across the bottom leaving a short flat undecorated panel as a foot. A Frankish copper alloy buckle loop and plate with nine domed bosses. Both the buckle loop and plate are hollow backed, and are silvered on the front. The buckle loop is an elongated oval, 71.11mm long by 39.89mm wide, by 5.64mm thick. Internal width of the strap would be 56.39mm. It has two projecting perforated lugs for attachment to the buckle plate, via an iron pin (now corroded). Two transverse raised ridges on the outer frame form a pin rest. Counter-plate from a Frankish buckle set, cast from a dark, almost black copper alloy. It is roughly triangular, with an indentation in the centre of the short edge to accommodate the protruding end of the buckle's pin, and two long symmetrically shaped sides which taper towards a rounded apex. The reverse is rough and slightly sunken, with two lugs. Gilded silver terminal and stubs of the ends of the raised frame round the foot-plate of a Frankish rectangular or semicircular-headed bow brooch. The terminal is in the form of an animal head with slanting, lentoid eyes, divided by a Y-shaped rib pointing to a broad, transverse band above two narrow, transverse ribs above the damaged, flat, semicircular end. There are also two narrow, V-shaped ribs above the Y, giving a furrowed brow appearance.
