A cast copper alloy long brooch. The brooch is almost complete, lacking only the pin and a small portion of the ‘head’; the catchplate is also broken. The brooch is fairly basic in design, and not very symmetrical along its centre line. The head is decorated with pairs of lines along the edges of the ‘cross’; inside these lines are lines of V-shaped stamps; in the centre of the head may be the remains of a group of ring-and-dots. This brooch probably dates to the 7th or 8th century, and may represent a disturbed grave.

A cast copper alloy cruciform brooch of the 6th or 7th century. This is a fine piece, apparently well-made and in good condition. The brooch has a good dark green patina. The brooch was incomplete until recently, when the finders located the ‘head’. Although in two pieces, it appears that the brooch is complete (unless there were side mounting on the head, still lost). The brooch is very regular in shape, and slightly convex in section through the body (the reverse is slightly hollow along its length). The head is a rough square, with decoration set in from the slightly concave si…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy polyhedral pin. The pinhead remains complete but the shaft is bent and broken. The entire length of the pin is 24.2mm, which comprises a head of 11.4mm in length and 11.9mm of remaining shaft. The polyhedral head has thirteen faces in the form of a cube with the corners cur off and all faces are undecorated. The shaft has a circular section, but only a very small portion remains. Therefore it is impossible to say how long it originally was or whether is was straight or L-shaped. The metal is a mid greyish-brown colour and in fairly good condition with on…

A cast copper alloy gilded circular early Anglo-Saxon horse-harness mount with a zone of Style II animal art decoration, dating to the late 6th to first half of the seventh century. It is likely that this object would have decorated the bridle/breast harness of the horse. This mount is very similar to one that was found in Ashdon (Essex) PAS database No: FAHG-33D653. The object has been broken into one large piece and three smaller pieces; they have all been glued back together by the finder. The copper alloy survives in a very good condition as does the gilding which is only eviden…

Probably fragment of an Anglo-Saxon 'Ansate' Brooch. Only one circular foot with a small part of the bow attached remains. The bow has broken close to the foot and is heavily melted due to fire damage prior to the object's discovery. The remains of the catchplate can still be seen on the reverse of the foot, but if the object was decorated this can no longer be seen due to the damage. The metal is a dark brownish-green colour with a whitish deposit on the surface and heavily pitted and erroded.

Headplate and bow from an early Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch made from copper alloy. A top knob survives but the side knobs are both missing. The pin is missing but traces of iron oxide survive. From the image, the brooch appears to have a trapezoidal raised central panel, decorated down either edge with double-crescent punchmarks, and two slightly flared wings. The bow begins with a flat-section panel, perhaps decorated with a horizontal line, and then is facetted below. A double vertical groove can be seen at the top of the facetted part, but below it is worn smooth. This b…

Cruciform horse-harness mount made from copper alloy and gilded on the front. It comprises four arms of equal length. In the lozengiform centre is a circular cell, now empty, and there is a circular lobe at each end of each arm with a copper-alloy boss in the centre of each lobe. Around the edge of the brooch is a border of diagonal ribbing which gives the effect of a tightly twisted rope; the arms are filled with two rows of this twisted cable, going in opposite directions with a narrow ridge to the centre and to either side.
