A very worn and corroded, pierced 16-/17th-century copper-alloy post-medieval jetton of uncertain issuer of an allegorical type, 'FORTVNA VARIABILIS' legend, probably struck in France under Charles IX (c. 1560 - c. 1574 AD).
The coin has been pierced through the reverse presumably for reuse as a jewellery item. The piercing is at around 11 o'clock on the obverse, and around 1 o'clock on the reverse.
The 'FORTVNA VARIABILIS' legend is found on jettons of Hans Krauwinckel II (1586-1635 AD) but the design is inverted compared to this piece. There is no obvious signature of Hans Krauw…

A bent 16-/17th-century copper-alloy post-medieval jetton of Hans Krauwinckel II (fl. 1586-1635), of the 'Rose / orb' type, 'GOT VERTRAW VND AVH IN BAVW' legend, struck at Nuremberg.
The jetton has been bent over on itself, almost in half.
This is a very unusual legend for Hans Krauwinckel II and is not published in the main reference work. An example has, however, been recorded on this database (ref. WMID363) and, as is noted in that record, Wolf Lauffer II (fl. 1612-1651 AD) used a similar legend (Mitchiner 1706).

The obverse legend reads: HANNS.KRAVWINCKE[L] [IN NVR] with three crowns alternating with three lis surrounding a central rose. The reverse legend is unclear due to severe surface wearing; however traces remain reading: '[R...AN...RN]'. This jetton is bent and abraded. It has a central perforation surrounded by three others at or just within the inner circle arranged in a triangle. This was presumably to mount the jetton, possibly as a button.
