A copper-alloy open-frame brooch of Medieval (13th to 15th century) date. The frame is sub-hexagonal, with inward-bowing sides, and is of trapezoidal section. A continuous band of circular depressions (perhaps settings) extends around the angled inner face of the frame. The flat upper surface is decorated with a series of incised transverse grooves. A complete cast copper-alloy sexfoil brooch with of Medieval date c. 1200 - 1500. The brooch is sexfoil in plan and triangular in cross section. It has been identified as an annular brooch because of the constriction for the pin. The sexfoil frame has slightly incurving sides between each point, the outer edge of the frame is undecorated, the inside edge has eleven circular recesses presumably for settings which are now missing. Post medieval cast copper alloy double loop buckle. The loops are 'D' shaped with expanded outer edge. There are three incised lines on the outer edge of each loop, the center ones being the pin grooves. The strap bar is narrowed with lobed knops at either end. The buckle has traces of black lacquer. The two loops are bent towards each other and it is now 39.06mm long, 33mm wide and 2.56mm thick; it weighs 5.98 grams. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead (2003) p54, reference 302, which he dates AD 1500-1650.
