A lead gaming piece/dice. This artefact is a cube but it is not an accurate cube (the side have different widths and lengths). The faces of the cube appear to be decorated or marked with a type of circle and dot design; similar to a dice, although on three faces there is only a single circle with a dot inside, one face has two and two of the faces are blank. The artefact is complete though very worn. The lead has gone a powdery light greyish-white.

A small harness link of Anglo-Scandinavian design, dating to the late Anglo-Saxon period. The artefact is made of lead, and would have had two rings either side of it to form the bridle cheekpiece. The rings would have been attached to the 'arms', which extend horizontally from either side of the artefact. Between these two arms there is a head of some sort of creature. The face has eyes, nose, mouth and ears on top of its head (like a bear). The artefact measures 41.32mm (from the tips of the 'arms'), 26.82mm (from the creature's ears to his 'chin'), 11.97mm from the tip of his 'nose…

Fragment of a cast lead insurance fire mark with an image of the sun as a human mask with radiating rays, probably dating from about AD 1700 to AD 1850. Length of surviving part 143mm, width 78mm and 3mm thick. Weight 249.16g. Viewed from the front, the right hand side is an original curved edge. However, all other edges have been formed by subsequent cutting or shearing in order to utilise the lead sheet for another purpose, perhaps for patching. Around the edges are six holes ranging in size from 1mm to 5mm in diameter. These holes have been created by piercing from the front to the …

Object type: SEAL MATRIX
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published
A complete lead seal matrix, circular in shape, measuring c30mm in diameter. There is a central incised cross on the front face of this seal matrix and a boarder inscription which appears to read; 'S'THOME SCVS' meaning 'seal of Thomas Scvs.' On the back face of the seal matrix there is a rounded protrusion from one edge, which is most likely to be the remains of a suspension loop. This seal matrix is most likely to be medieval and 13th century in date.

Half of a lead seal matrix, incomplete due to an old break. This seal matrix would have originally have been pointed oval in shape, it now measures 14.8mm in length and 16mm in width. The front face has a boarder inscription which is now unreadable due to wear. There is also an unclear design in the centre of the seal matrix. A rectangular longitudinal moulding can be seen running down the centre of the back face, which would have presumably have terminated in the suspension loop, which is now missing. This seal matrix is medieval and probably 13th or 14th century in date.

Object type: TRIAL PIECE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Northamptonshire
Workflow stage: Published
A lead trial piece which has a serated rectangle with letters S and N stamped into it. The item has presumably been used to test what a maker's stamp would look like before it is used on a finished product. It is hard to determine what this intended fnished product may have been. The letters could be read SN or NS depending on which way up they are looked at. The style of the letters suggest a 17th or 18th century date for this item, although a Roman date is also possible.
