An extremely worn posthumously issued Dupondius or As of the deified Faustina I (141-161 AD). Roman mint. The obverse legend is illegible although it is possible to discern a female bust facing right, with the upswept hair characteristic of depictions of Faustina Senior. Obverse legend probably reads: DIVA AUGUSTA FAUSTINA. Although the reverse legend is illegible, the reverse type is probably AETURNITAS, depicting Juno (?) standing left, raising right hand and holding sceptre. Reece Period 7. Cf. RIC III, p71, No. 365.

A slightly worn and corroded 2nd century Roman copper-alloy As or Dupondius of uncertain Antonine emperor (c. 138-180 AD, Reece period 7-8). Mint is Rome. Both legends are missing. It is unclear if the obverse depicts a bare or laureate head; the reverse probably depicts Mars, standing front facing left with cloak over left shoulder, holding spear left and possibly another attribute right. However, due to severe surface wear on the coin, it is possible that this is actually a depiction of Mercury standing front, head left, holding patera and caduceus (Cf. RIC III, p237, No. 309). Beca…

An extremely corroded and worn copper alloy Roman coin, probably an As or Dupondius of Faustina the Elder, c. 138-161 AD. Mint: Rome. Reece Period 7. The only detail remaining on the coin is the depiction of a female bust facing right. The up-swept and coiled hairstyle is characteristic of depictions of Faustina I; however, no trace of the legends remain to facilitate a complete identification. In addition to coinage during her lifetime, Faustina I also had an extensive assortment of coinage circulated posthumously in her honor. Cf. RIC III, Plate III.
