An incomplete cast copper alloy Trumpet brooch of Roman date. The reverse of the head is concave to accommodate the spring mechanism which is comprised of an internal chord with four turns of the spring, one end of which forms form the beginning of the pin. The pin proper no longer remains. The mechanism is held in place by a single central lug through which is an incomplete axis bar. The head itself is trumpet shaped and decorated with a circumferential incised border. A complete cast copper alloy penannular brooch of Roman date. The brooch is of Booth Type A3 (Fowler Type A2).The frame is plain with a narrow circular section and expands slightly from the centre to the terminals. The terminals are rounded knops with milled decoration. The separately cast pin is formed from a single thick strip of tapering copper alloy with a simple wrap around hinge. The metal of the frame is a mid blackish-brown colour and survives in good condition. The brooch is 27.9mm in diameter, 2.6mm thick, the pin is 42.4mm long and weighs 4.7g. A similar example is illu…

A complete cast lead spindle whorl of late medieval to post-medieval date. The spindle whorl is bi-conical with a central perforation running through it. One side of the spindle whorl is decorated with a series of triangular cells formed from raised lines radiating from the central perforation. The other side is extremely worn rendering any decoration indistinguishable. The metal is a light brownish-white colour and is worn. A complete cast lead spindle whorl or weight of medieval to post-medieval date. The whorl is cylindrical in shape with an uneven serrated, or undulating, outer edge and central circular perforation. The base is flat and the top has nine raised pellets where the undulating side rise up. The metal is a mid whitish-grey colour and is worn. The object is 26.5mm in diameter, 10.6mm thick and weighs 42.5g. Spindle whorls and weights were cast locally in lead from the Roman period onwards and are difficult to date precisely without a secure archaeological context. Most decorated examples…
