A lead token dating to the Post-Medieval period 1500 - 1850AD. The token is flat, broadly circular and double faced. Both sides of the token are decorated in raised relief. On the obverse is a rough shield with a cross and five raised pellets to the top left with possibly the remains of a further three raised pellets to the top right. On the obverse is lettering which probably relates to the initials of the token producer possibly JB with what appears to be IG underneath. The length is 22mm and the width 20mm. Similar on the database to BERK-B5C504. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally, they are therefore hard to date precisely but those with initials are thought to date c. 1500-1850. Until recently cross and pellet designs were thought to be contemporary with the similar Medieval coin designs; however publication of moulds and double-faced tokens which combine Post Medieval initial style designs with cross and pellets suggest they continue into the Post-Medieval period.

A Medieval to Post Medieval cast lead alloy uniface circular token. The token has a raised design of an intial or intials, probably intended to be a single letter W (designed as two overlapping letter Vs). There is a single raised pellet both above and below the letter. The reverse is blank.
Lead tokens are difficult to date precisely and could be Medieval to Post Medieval in date (1250-1800 AD). The majority of lead tokens are thought to date to the seventeenth century or later, c. 1600-1800, especially those which depict lettering or initials, this token is therefore dated in line with this thinking.

Cast lead-alloy token dating from the late post-medieval or early modern period, that is c. AD1600-1900. The token was made crom cast lead and displays a Latin cross seperating the initial I and M on the obverse and the moon with face/man in the moon on the reverse. These tokens were often home made and very personalised suggesting that the IM were the initial of the issuer, with the token being used for his or his companies goods.

The three feathers and the motto "lch Dien", German for "I Serve", go back to Edward (1330-1376), the eldest son of Edward III. He was known as the 'Black Prince' because he had his suit of armour painted black, a very unusual thing at the time. He later became the Prince of Wales and the three feathers and coronet have been associated with Wales and the Prince of Wales ever since.

Copper penny token issued by John Williams III (1753-1841) of Scorrier House, Redruth which was bought by him in 1778 when he was running Scorrier Mine.
The obverse of the coin depicts a pumping engine house, with brickwork on the chimney, and a winding machine with the inscription PAYABLE AT SCORRIER HOUSE upon a ribbon above the scene, and below it in four lines in exergue ONE POUND FOR 240 TOKENS IN 1812.
The reverse depicts the Prince of Wales plume of three feathers with the motto ICH / DIEN on scrolls on either side, surrounded by a garter with the inscription CORNISH PENNY.
The issue for these particular tokens was quite short as Williams was aware of many counterfeits (Withers, 1999, 110), and the poor condition of this example makes it difficult to be sure if it is genuine or not.
Withers (1999) illustrate the same token on page 111, No.686, which is dated to 1812.

It has been noted (Williamson ibid) that this is probably the earliest English trade token, and the only one sanctioned by the state until the 18th century. The date of the Elizabethan licence for its striking is unknown but we know it lapsed on the accession of James I. It has also been noted that such tokens were 'current at Bristol and ten miles about'.
