A cast copper-alloy pin of Medieval date (c. 1250 - c. 1400), with an oval loop at one end, which has become detached from an annular buckle or possibly brooch. The pin is D-shaped in cross-section with flat bottom and rounded top. It narrows slightly throughout its length from the loop towards the tip. The tip is undercut slightly. On the top of the shaft, near the junction with the loop there is a raised transverse line. The loop is probably incomplete asit is only 2/3rds of a circle. The pin is 36.2mm long including the loop, 10.5mm wide and 4.5mm thick; it weighs 2.96 grams. The…

Part of the front of a Post Medieval buckle plate. The plate has two long rectangular tabs that looped over the strap bar with a rectangular pin slot between them. They have broken across the bent end with a patinated break. At the end of the tabs the plate expands out into an oval then narrows abruptly before expanding out slightly to the terminal. Most of the terminal is also missing to an old break. There is a circular rivet hole in the centre of the oval and part of a second where the plate has broken before the terminal. An incomplete copper alloy buckle and plate of medieval date. The object is unusual as it has a rotating clasp for fastening rather than a pin. The buckle, plate and clasp are all separately made. The frame is incomplete with only the strap bar and a short length of the frame to either side still remaining. The plate is rectangular with a centrally placed rectangular hole at which point it is fitted around the strap bar of the buckle. Two rivet holes are present on both ends of the open end of the plate and would have aided in attachment to a strap. The upper surface is decorated with…

Copper alloy buckle. Cast rectangular buckle frame with a thickened curved edge and a prominent notch for the pin. Rust staining on the pin bar suggests the pin may have been made of iron, and together with the small size of the object this may tend to confirm a function as a spur buckle. Suggested date: Late Medieval, 1350-1400. Length: 16.9mm, Width: 13.2mm, Thickness: 4.1mm, Weight: 2.13gms.
