A cast copper-alloy pin of Medieval date (c. 1250 - c. 1400), with an oval loop at one end, which has become detached from an annular buckle or possibly brooch. The pin is D-shaped in cross-section with flat bottom and rounded top. It narrows slightly throughout its length from the loop towards the tip. The tip is undercut slightly. On the top of the shaft, near the junction with the loop there is a raised transverse line. The loop is probably incomplete asit is only 2/3rds of a circle. The pin is 36.2mm long including the loop, 10.5mm wide and 4.5mm thick; it weighs 2.96 grams. The…

Part of the front of a Post Medieval buckle plate. The plate has two long rectangular tabs that looped over the strap bar with a rectangular pin slot between them. They have broken across the bent end with a patinated break. At the end of the tabs the plate expands out into an oval then narrows abruptly before expanding out slightly to the terminal. Most of the terminal is also missing to an old break. There is a circular rivet hole in the centre of the oval and part of a second where the plate has broken before the terminal. The front has moulded foliate decoration in the style known…

Post Medieval copper alloy sub-rectangular buckle with separate strap bar and surviving chape. The frame is sub-rectangular with rounded corners. The rounded outer ends are slightly widened with a transverse pin rest across the centre. The middle of the top and bottom sides is thickened and the thickened area is drilled to hold the separate iron strap bar. Large areas of iron corrosion show the strap bar and also probably the pin were of iron. Medieval or Post Medieval cast copper-alloy double-loop buckle frame. The frame has two oval loops. They are D-shaped in section with flat backs and a rounded front. The pin is missing but iron corrosion around the strap bar and covering half of one loop may suggest it was iron. It is 26.1mm long, 21.8mm wide and 1.8mm thick, 5.7mm including the iron; it weighs 3.13 grams. A similar example is illustrated in Margeson (1993:30, no.164) from a 17th century context although it is likely similar simple forms were in use by c.1350 (Egan and Pritchard 1993:22, 82-3, cf no.332).
