An incomplete copper alloy double looped buckle, both loops identical. Each is a wide short oval with the outside edge widened to a rectanglar shape, with tiny short grooves or notches cut into the edge. Corroded to mid/dark brown, pin is missing. Length 38.04mm, Width 32.81mm Thickness 1.96mm, Weight 8.47g. Compare NMS-B2F4CE. A similar example was found unstratified at Winchester (Biddle 1990, no. 1261) and dated on stylistic grounds to the post-medieval period. Whitehead 2003, 63, no 381 also has similarities and is dated by Whitehead to c. 1550-1650.

An incomplete, cast copper alloy, double loop asymmetrical buckle of post medieval date. Bevelled inside and outside edges. Trilobed knop at either end of where the strap bar would connect, bar and pin are missing, although small holes for pin still visible. It is undecorated and corroded to a mid/dark green and mid brown colour. Length 25.8mm, Width 20.6mm, Thickness 2.03mm, Weight 2.83g (cf Whitehead p91, No 569)

Corroded to a mid green colour, pin still in place but damaged. It is undecorated and one end has been slightly bent upwards. (cf Whitehead, p 65, No 405)

An incomplete cast copper alloy double-looped buckle frame of medieval to post medieval date. The frame is formed of two conjoined ovals such that the sides incurve. The frame is bevelled both internally and externally on the upper surface; the lower surface is flat. The pin bar has a trapezoidal cross-section. The frame has corroded to a light/mid green colour and the pin is now missing. Length 23.56mm, Width 21.45mm, Thickness 2.6mm, Weight 3.44g. (cf HAMP-BCC6E5)

An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of post-medieval date. The buckle has a double loop and is asymmetrical with a narrowed strap bar. The pin no longer survives. The metal is a grey in colour with traces of silvering remain on the surface of the buckle. The buckle is 25.86mm long, 17.20mm wide, 1.9mm thick and weighs 2.6g. A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead, p.90, no.562 and is dated to circa 1575 - 1700. Also DENO-92ECA4 and YORYM-F4BE22

Cast copper alloy buckle frame dating from the post-medieval period, that is c. 17th century. The frame is complete and in good condition, but the pin (possibly made from iron) is missing. It is decorated with pointed ends with ovoid knops on the corners of the frame. Notch for pin on the outside edge of each loop. Lobed protusions either end of the strap bar.

A small copper alloy single loop D-shaped buckle frame with a sheet copper-alloy plate and copper-alloy wire pin still attached. The buckle has a pointed outer edge with a grooved pin rest. There also appears to be a decorative groove at either end of the bar, dividing it from the frame, although this may not be deliberate as the buckle is not well made. The remains consist of a complete buckle frame and nearly complete buckle plate; the pin and plate rivets are missing. A Medieval or Post Medieval incomplete cast copper alloy double loop oval buckle, c. 1350-1650 AD. The remains consist of a buckle frame measuring 21.29mm long, 17.70mm wide, 2.05 mm thick and weighing 1.47 grams. Neither surface has further decoration and the reverse surface is flat. Iron corrosion on the central pin bar suggests that the missing pin was fashioned from iron. Cf. Whitehead 2003, p53.

Cast copper alloy single looped 'D' shaped buckle frame with a protruding lip and a notched pin rest with an offset pin bar. The frame is 13.91 mm Long, 20.88 mm Wide The pin is missing. Iron corrosion on the pin bar and buckle frame lip is indicative of an iron pin. A simple folded and slotted sheet metal buckle plate is attached. There is a copper alloy rivet in situ, centrally placed in the open end of the plate. The plate is curved gently from the centre outwards to the edge. A Medieval incomplete cast copper alloy single loop buckle, dated to mainly c. 1250-1500 AD. The buckle frame is D-shaped with a narrowed and offset strap bar; the pin is missing. The outer and inner edges of the frame have been bevelled, however the reverse surface is flat. The buckle frame measures 14.50 mm long, 21.50 mm wide, 3.36 mm thick and weighs 1.95 grams. It is of an even grey-green patina, perhaps due to a higher tin content within the copper alloy. Cf. Whitehead 2003, p19.

There is a groove near the centre of the strap bar, where the pin would have rotated. The outer and inner edges of the frame have been bevelled, however the reverse surface is flat. The buckle frame measures 15.23 mm long, 22.70 mm wide, 3.43 mm thick and weighs 2.4 grams. It is of an even grey-green patina, perhaps due to a higher tin content within the copper alloy. Cf. A post-Medieval, cast, copper-alloy double-loop, asymmetrical buckle. The buckle consists of two loops, one D-shaped and one trapezoidal. Both loops are triangular in section. The D-shaped loop has a lobed knop at either end of the strap bar. Iron oxide staining on the strap bar suggests an iron pin, now missing. A similar buckle can be seen in Whitehead, page 91, no.564.

Medieval cast copper alloy single-loop buckle of Meols Type A. The frame is sub-rectangular with a narrowed circular sectioned strap bar. The outer edge is slightly longer and wider with square outer and inner sides. There are four transverse grooves across the front of the outer edge. A further wider groove is centrally placed to rest the pin which is lost to antiquity This buckle measures 13.76 mm in length, 14.10 mm in width, 1.95 mm in thickness and weighs 0.97g .
