Object type: CASTING WASTE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A rectangular, or bar-shaped piece of silver casting waste. One end of the bar has been flattened although the purpose for this is unclear. There are markings on one side of the bar that look like a row of zig-zags, but this may just be a result of the casting process. Although made of silver, the artefact is undiagnostic and cannot be securely dated to pre-1712 AD. Therefore it does not fulfill the criteria of the Treasure Act 1996.

Barry Ager of the British Museum writes: The find consists of a ring of twisted silver wires. The inner and outer surfaces have been intentionally flattened. It is undiagnostic and undatable, although probably of no great age, so does not qualify as Treasure under the stipulated criteria of the Treasure Act.
