'Female' tag from a two-part dress hook. The tag has a triangular plate with steeply bevelled sides, and a flat plain face. The underside of the plate is hollow. At each of the corners is a pierced circular lug for attachment, the rear lug is damaged. On the forward edge is a rectangular loop.

Treasure case 2012 T49: Acquired by the Museum of Somerset. Date: c.1500-1600 AD Description: Silver double-ended sharp hooked clasp with a squashed openwork filigree bead in the centre. The clasp is formed if a single piece of silver wire with both ends narrowing to sharp points. The central part of the wire is straight and both hooks bent over 180 degrees on the same plane so laid flat the points were parallel to the main wire and pointed at each other. A silver gilt dress hook. The plate is in the form of two leaves forming a V shape and terminating in a short neck with a raised collar and a tri-lobed expansion at the end. Behind the plate is a rectangular strip metal loop across the width.This and the hook have been soldered to the decorative plate. The hook is ciscular in cross section and tapers to a sharp point. Description Silver 'dress clasp loop'. The front is decorated with trefoils in plain wire arranged around single pellets, soldered to the back plate. 2012 T329 Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire I have examined an object found at Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire. It a silver coin that has been converted into a brooch or clothes fastening by the addition of attachments to one side: a round eye that could enable it to be sewn to a garment and a hook. A post-Medieval silver cufflink. A circular-sectioned, sub-rectangular wire link joins the two head together. These heads are of equal form, being circular, with flat upper surfaces, angled sides and a wire loop at the centre of their flat undersides. Each head measures 12.6mm in diameter. Overall, the object is 24.7mm long, 5mm thick and weighs 2.26g. A Post-medieval silver cufflink consisting of two discs (each 13.3mm in diameter) with downturned edges, joined by an ovoid wire link engaged with a loop soldered to the reverse of each. The front of both discs is decorated in counter-relief with a heart surmounted by a flame and transfixed by a pair of crossed arrows. This device is commonly found on 17th-century cufflinks (S. Thornton in Treasure Annual Report 2005/6, 139 no.615). Cufflinks began to become popular in c.1675. The cuff link is 17.6mm long and weighs1.60 grams.

Post Medieval silver cufflink element. Formed of a octagonal disc with an incised flower design formed of four large petals, with a smaller petals, or leaves, in the angles. The design is very worn. There are incised curved lines which border the edge of the disc. The reverse has a silver wire forming an oval attachment loop. The solder is clearly visible on the reverse. This object is less than 300 years old and so does not qualify as treasure under the 1996 Treasure Act.
