A complete cast silver spoon of post-medieval to modern date. The bowl is extremely worn and bent making its original shape difficult to determine though it is probably oval. The stem is rectangular in section and widens out to a bulbous terminal. The upper surface of the terminal is inscribed with the letter "W" and the underside shows traces of markings, probably a hallmark, which is now largely indistinguishable. The spoon is 76.1mm long, 27.6mm wide, 1.5mm thick and weighs 12.9g.

Silver spoon. Cast spoon fragment, comprising a leaf shaped bowl with a short oval rib below the bowl which continues as a flat and narrow stem. The spoon bowl has been hammered flat, and most of the stem has been removed by forceful twisting which has left a thin tapered and twisted stub attached to the bowl. The material is now very thin, and this may be the result of wear in use rather than the hammering of the object, as silver spoons can acquire sharp edges with prolonged use. Pewter spoons from London generally exhibit broader bowls, so this example is probably later. Suggested …

Description: A bronze spoon handle with a tinned surface. The stem is rectangular in section and widens and thickens towards the bowl. It is decorated on the thickest part with two groups of incised lines around the stem and a row of notches along the narrowed upper edge of the stem above the offset. The handle is offset from the bowl, attached to the remaining fragment by a flat, hook-like projection. The end of the handle projects slightly beyond the offset. There is only a small fragment of the bowl remaining, making it difficult to speculate on the original shape and size of the bowl.
