Post medieval silver hammered coin. The coin is a penny of Henry VIII (1509 -1547), second coinage. The coin has either broken or been crudely cut. It is more likely to be broken as it is not as precisely cut as a 'cut halfpenny' would be. See Spink (2001:213, reference number 2349) for a similar coin.

A post-medieval hammered silver halfpenny from the Canterbury mint. The obverse has a forward facing crowned bust with the letters 'W' and 'A' to either side, probably for Archbishop William Warham. The legend reads: [HDG ROSA] SINE [SPI]. The reverse has a long cross with three pellets in each angle and the legend: [CIVITAS] CANTE[R].
The coin corresponds closely with North number 1816 (though with some differences in the legend), dating it to 1526-1544. William Warham was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1504 until 1532, hence the coin is likely to date from 1526-1532 and was str…

A fragment of a post-medieval hammered silver halfgroat of Henry VIII, mint uncertain. The obverse has a forward facing bust and a legend containing double saltire stops which reads: [--- HI]BE REX (an extra 'E' seems to have been inserted between 'HIB' and REX). The reverse has a shield on a long cross fourchee, the arms of which terminate in a pellet within a circle. The legend reads: [POSVI DEVM ADIV]TORE[EM MEV].
As the class of the coin is uncertain, only a broad date of 1509-1547 may be assigned to it.
