A Roman mount, 43-300 AD.
Petal shaped mount, rounded at one end and gently pointed at the other. A central hole is slightly off-centre and the mount is D-shaped in section. There are scratches and gouges on the surface.
The roundedness and the metalwork quality make the piece more likely to be Roman however an enameled example has been dated to the medieval period, though this piece is more tapered at one end: see LIN-9D5607

A cast copper-alloy mount of probable Medieval date, c. 1300-1500.
The mount is probably a fragment of a larger object, made from a cast sheet of copper alloy. The remaining portion consists of a cruciform terminal with three fanshaped lobes emerging from the end of a rectangular arm. Each lobe has a triangular projection in the middle of its outer edge, though the projection of the central lobe (opposite the arm) is missing. A circular perforation can be seen at the base of each projection and where the arm joins the lobes. A cracked bend can also be seen on the arm near the perfor…

An incomplete, cast, lead-alloy mount of Post-Medieval date, c. 1600-1800.
The mount consists of probable sub-rectangular body with concave side lengths, and an extended rectangular terminal with a slightly flared end. The mount is broken at each end. The break at the wider end has the body bent and may be indicative of a hinge or some other type of fitting. The body has incised decoration of two lines that parallel each other with diagonal moulding in between, emulating a cord, tracing the outline of the object. The reverse is undecorated.
A very similar object, but in copper all…

A cast copper-alloy figural mount in the Limoges style, c. 13th-14th century.
The mount is incomplete and the details of the figure are very worn. The figure appears to be a robed and possibly veiled female standing left and facing forward. The figure is slightly bent back from the waist.
The reverse is undecorated, but a sub-circular perforation is found in the centre, which may have held a rivet, and the reverse of the head and shoulders bear traces of further attachments, either the base of two shanks or a loop.
The base of the mount also bears traces of a very worn break, th…

The mount was probably fixed to a strap or belt.
