An incomplete bent copper-alloy Iron Age/Roman La Tène III, Nauheim derivative brooch dating to the 1st century AD. The spring is incomplete, one coil survives, the remainder of the spring and the pin are missing. The solid, plain bow is circular in cross-section. It rises up from the head giving the brooch a maximum height of c. 20.25mm. It curves through 90 degrees and travels gradually downwards towards the catchplate, curving as it reaches the catchplate which is bent towards the brooch. An incomplete copper-alloy La Tène I Iron Age brooch (3rd-4th century BC). The brooch is broken at its head with the pin and the spring mechanism lost. From the head (2.5mm wide) the bow curves through ninety degrees, expanding as it does so. The bow reaches a maximum thickness of 6.55mm. An incomplete Late Iron Age/ early Roman (AD 20-80) copper- alloy Colchester one-piece brooch missing the majority of the catchplate, the spring and pin. The wings are flat and rectangular. No decoration is visible on the bow which tapers towards the tip. Behind the wings is one coil of the spring and a forward facing hook. The majority of the catchplate is missing, a fragment survives.

A cast copper-alloy bead of late prehistoric date, probably Late Iron Age. The bead is of flat biconvex form with a ridge at its circumference. The internal perforation has a diameter of c. 6.25mm. Both surfaces of the bead are decorated at the mid point between the circumference and the central hole. They each have three equally spaced neat ring-and-dot motifs on a circle formed of fine punches. The ring-and-dot motifs are at broadly similar points of both faces and form a triangular arrangement. The object has a dark-green patina with some pitting and areas of lighter corrosion product.

A fairly elaborate cast copper-alloy end-looped cosmetic pestle of late Iron Age/Roman date. The object has a pronounced hooked bow and moulded loop. The loop is flattened at the attachment end with a transverse notch just above the junction on the outer surface. Above the loop is rounded around a circular perforation (Dia.: 4.3mm). The shaft emerges from the centre of the loop, 5.85mm thick and expanding immediately in width to 5.8mm. A complete cast copper-alloy mini terret, dating to the late Iron Age/early Roman periods. The terret is sub-circular in plan, with a flattened attachment side, and is D-shaped in cross section, with a flat lower surface (Int. W.: 13.3mm, L.: 12.2mm, Th.: 3.3mm). The flattened side which would have taken a strap is narrowed and recessed (L.: 9.6mm). It is flanked by knops or collars at the junction with the hoop. The object has corroded to a light-green colour with a dark-green patina where it survives. Similar examples can be found on this database, refs. NMS-032B00, YORYM-6BDBA4.

Circumstances of discovery On 22nd October 2011 a single gold coin was discovered by metal detector users near Chawton in Hampshire. A further 104 gold coins were discovered on the same spot between 10th December 2011 and 7th January 2012. The coins were reported to Rob Webley, Hampshire FLO, and delivered to the British Museum on 8th March 2012.
