An incomplete Roman cast copper-alloy single-loop rectangular buckle (AD 43-100).
The frame is slightly misshapen and sub-rectangular in cross-section. It has a large lip in the form of a pin rest at the outer edge and the bar is slightly narrowed. The plain cruciform style pin is convex on the upper face and flat on the underside. It has a loop which fully encloses the bar and the shaft has two transverse curving arms, one at each side. An incomplete post-Medieval cast silver double-looped buckle (1500-1650 AD). Treasure case no. 2012 T1.
One loop and the pin are missing. The surviving loop is D-shaped, flat at the front and rear and the narrowed bar is triangular in cross-section. A small knop projects at each end of the bar. The front of the outer edge is bevelled on the outer and inner sides and the breaks are old.
A similar silver buckle has been recorded from Tendring District, Essex (TAR 2009 T620; ESS-F4D4A5).

TREASURE CASE 2012 T3 Post Medieval Button
Description: Post Medieval silver button casing. It is hemispherical in shape, with a soldered silver wire loop at the apex. There is a raised band around the rim and the outer surface is decorated in alternate bands of plain raised lines and recessed lines which are filled with narrow, oblique lines. It is now hollow, but contains traces of a white paste which was probably used to secure a gem or glass setting. It is 12.67mm in diameter, 9.60mm long and weighs 0.92 grams.

An interesting buckle plate consisting of 4 parts:
1. The principal part of the plate is formed by a strip of copper alloy bent in two with a gap at the fold, like that on a modern hairpin, to receive the buckle frame and pin (now both missing). Three tectangular notches have been cut into the folded edge; a central pin slot to locate the pin and a further two frame recesses cut into the corners to receive the buckle frame. Description: Silver finger ring with flat, rectangular sectioned hoop and narrowed stirrup-shaped expansion at the bezel. The hoop is inscribed + AVE MARI around the outer side, a contraction of Ave Maria, (Hail Mary). It steps in in width at the shoulders to a thin ridge which is triangular in profile creating a stirrup shape narrowing towards the top point at the centre. Circumstances of discovery
Found with the aid of a metal detector on pasture land over a spread of approximately 20 feet, 13.11.11. Many iron fragments including nails were found at the same time but were considered to be unrelated to the coins. The coins were in mostly fragmentary condition and images were taken at the British Museum.

An incomplete silver gilt annular brooch fragment or cap badge (perhaps), dating from the 13th - 16th century. It has a flat face in the form of a flower head with six petals or leaves (creating at star like pattern), one of which has broken off. These are defined by raised lines with a pellet at each end. The front has been gilded. There is a scar on the reverse from a soldered recurving hook which is now missing.
