Obverse description: facing bust with long hair, trifoliate crown with tall central fleur, initial cross potent. Initially appearing bare shouldered, this may actually be the result of wear, as a small wedge is discernible left.

Reverse description: Long cross, three pellets in each angle.
Reverse inscription: CIVI/TAS/LON/DON

This coin has suffered some significant losses to its circumference and is no longer complete. Part of the obverse legend appears to be double struck.

A Medieval voided long cross penny of Henry III (1216-1272 AD). Moneyer: Nicole; Canterbury Mint. North Class Vb, dated to c. 1250-56 AD. Obverse depicts a crowned bust facing with sceptre, with fleur in centre of crown; the legend reads: + hENRICVS [REX] III. The 'N' and 'R' in Henricus are ligated with the R having a wedge-shaped leg. The reverse depicts a voided long cross with three pellets in each quadrant and a small central pellet; the reverse legend reads NIC/OLE/ONC/ANT. Cf. North 1994 Vol I, p227, No. 992/2; also Wren 1993, Class Vb.
