Pottery body sherd with an oblique line of single twisted cord-impressed decoration running across the left side of the exterior of the sherd. The sherd is made of gabbroic clay that weathers over the gabbro outcrop on the Lizard in Cornwall. The fabric has inclusions of pale felspars, dark augite and mica, and is orangey-brown on the exterior and on the interior of the sherd, and throughout the core. The cobble is circular in plan and ovate in profile and section, with flakes having been removed over one side of the upper surface and a flattened base, suggesting hammerstone and pestle use. Such pieces do turn up on domestic sites but not in any quantity compared to mullers and rubbers. Description by Nicholas Thomas: This is a notched blade. The dorsal face has two long fake removals from proximal to distal ends. There is a shallow notch on the the right margin, worked from the dorsal face. The ventral left margin ha sa shallow notch in a nearly central position. Ther eis a trace of edge wear on the right edge. The flint is mottled creamy grey in colour. It is probably derived from a local beach pebble but this is unclear with only tertiary cortex. Mercer illustrates a similar piece on P127 Fig 55 No L90 which he dates to the Neolithic.

A side variant scraper, light grey and cream in colour, which has been uni-facially retouched and expediently manufactured. The left margin exhibits discontinuous retouch with a semi-abrupt angle and is of edge extent. The retouch morphology of this margin is of sub-parallel type. Extensive cortex cover allows for comfortable handling although there is a small amount of spalling at the distal area. A chunky looking blade with a finely serrated edge. It could be described as a piercer or serrated piece. The point has been blunted, probably from use. The serration is along the right and left hand edges and there are signs of gloss from use wear on the dorsal face. The right hand edge has patination along it. The flint is dark grey in colour with large speckles of lighter grey and was likely derived from a local beach pebble. Butler [2005] illustrates a similar example on page 169, fig. 71, No. 6 which is dated to the later Neolithic.
