Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Elongated piece of translucent light brown coloured flint with a cream inclusion. Te dorsal face exhibits a single medial ridge running from the proximal to distal edges. The distal edge terminates as a point, with both sides appearing to have been struck, to produce the point. The ventral face is smooth in appearance with no obvious indication of retouch around it edges. This piece could be described as a failed burin, piercer, or tanged tool. Very small but indeterminate tool.

Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Oval piece of flint which has been subject to intense heat, the dorsal face retains approximately 30% cortex covering which is reddish in colour, probably as a result of heat exposure. The flint itself is two tone grey in colour and exhibits faults and fractures throughout its surface. The cortex is smooth to the touch and typical of material associated with beach pebbles. The edges are ragged and uneven, no obvious indication of retouch along any edge although this could be hidden due to the damage caused by the exposure to intense heat. The ventral face is smooth in appearance a…

Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Oval piece of dark grey coloured flint with off white inclusions. The dorsal face exhibits several ridges with negative scars, distal edge appears rounded and may have been deliberately manufactured. The right margin is more blunt than the left and could be classed as having been backed, there does appear to be evidence of retouch but it is slight. The left margin is more shallow and sharp in appearance. The proximal edge has been broken implying this implement was much larger. The ventral face is smooth in appearance and texture, some conchoidal rippling present in the surface. Possi…

Ovoid shaped piece of dark grey coloured flint. The dorsal face protrudes higher from the face at the proximal end, sloping down toward the distal edge. The proximal edge appears broken and uneven, with the right margin curving gentle out toward the medial then back in terminating to a point at the distal edge. Possible serration marks on the edge of the margin, but these are very small and slight. The left margin appears to reflect the right margin in is convex appearance, although there doesn't appear to be any retouch marks along its length. The ventral face is divided between an u…

Elongated piece of translucent brown coloured flint with some speckling in the material. Dorsal face exhibits a single medial ridge running from the left side of the proximal edge to the terminating point at the distal edge. The proximal edge is shallow and flat in appearance, plan view shows it to be curved, with a very small profile, blade like in appearance. The right and left margins both curve in toward the terminating point of the distal edge, which could be looked upon as a tang or piercer point. The ventral face is relatively smooth with some conchoidal rippling present in the…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Elongated piece of light grey coloured flint, The upper part of the right margin appears to have been subject to light retouch, leading up to the distal edge which terminates as a sharp point. The proximal edge is uneven and rugged in appearance with the left margin appearing flat in places although the area around the medial is flat, possible strike point from a core ? This piece doesn't have an obvious dorsal and ventral face, appearing triangular in profile, definite retouch has occurred on one edge, possible use as a piercer, manufactured from a waste flake. Probable piercer.

Rectangular piece of translucent brown coloured flint. The dorsal face of the flint appears glossy and smooth to the touch. The proximal edge appears to have some trace of cortex material, not enough to identify the source. The right margin appears to have been subject to retouch, what appears to be micro denticulates appear along the length of the margin, which terminates at the distal edge which is straight and appears to have been broken or snapped off. The left margin is blade like in appearance but very small and brittle in appearance. The ventral face is smooth in appearance …

Rectangular piece of translucent light grey coloured flint. The dorsal face appears relatively flat, The proximal edge appears straight and could have come from a striking platform. With the right margin appearing almost squared off with the proximal edge, no obvious indication of retouch along the margin , again this appear with the right margin terminating at the distal edge. This time however the distal edge right side, appears to have been snapped off, the piece remaining clean and sharp to the touch. The left part of the distal edge is slightly concave in appearance. Translucent light browny/grey coloured piece of flint, appears to be a microlith. The dorsal face exhibits a single prominent medial ridge along the right side of the face, while there also appears to be a secondary ridge on the left side. The dorsal face exhibits the signs of core removal with a blade gouge in the medial. The proximal edge appears to have been snapped, the edge remaining sharp implying recent damage. The distal edge appears to have been blunted, the right margin is sharp enough to act as a blade edge, while the left margin appears more truncated , if the piece had…

The proximal edge appears abraded and slightly flat along its edge and may be the remains of a striking platform. The left margin exhibits retouch along its edge, which appears nibbled, but refined pecking. The proximal end of the left margin also appears to show gloss. A light brown coloured piece of flint, triangular in shape exhibiting a single medial ridge proximal to just below the distal edge. The dorsal face proximal edge is narrow and uneven in appearance, the right margin appears to have been subject to retouch along its edge, possibly continuing around the curvature of the right corner of the distal edge. The centre of the distal appears concave, with the left corner protruding out from the piece. The left margin appears straight with closer inspection revealing irregularities within the edge, not as a result of retouch. The ventral fac…
