A microlith formed on a bladelet of grey brown flint. The left margin has been abruptly retouched and blunted along its length forming a point at the distal end. The right margin is unretouched and sharp with a small natural nick in the edge. It may have been hafted with the blunt edge set with resin into a groove in a wood or bone tool. Butler(2005) illustrates a small lanceolate piece on page 101, fig 39, 14.

Flint broken microlith, triangular in plan ans section, and lozenge in profile. Broken at distal end. Bulb on ventral face. Serrated left and right edges. The flint is dark brown colour with lighter flecks. Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 112, Fig. 5.96, No. 26, which is dated to the Mesolithic.

Elongated piece of translucent brown coloured flint with some speckling in the material. Dorsal face exhibits a single medial ridge running from the left side of the proximal edge to the terminating point at the distal edge. The proximal edge is shallow and flat in appearance, plan view shows it to be curved, with a very small profile, blade like in appearance. The right and left margins both curve in toward the terminating point of the distal edge, which could be looked upon as a tang or piercer point. The ventral face is relatively smooth with some conchoidal rippling present in the…

Rectangular piece of translucent brown coloured flint. The dorsal face of the flint appears glossy and smooth to the touch. The proximal edge appears to have some trace of cortex material, not enough to identify the source. The right margin appears to have been subject to retouch, what appears to be micro denticulates appear along the length of the margin, which terminates at the distal edge which is straight and appears to have been broken or snapped off. The left margin is blade like in appearance but very small and brittle in appearance. The ventral face is smooth in appearance …

Rectangular piece of translucent light grey coloured flint. The dorsal face appears relatively flat, The proximal edge appears straight and could have come from a striking platform. With the right margin appearing almost squared off with the proximal edge, no obvious indication of retouch along the margin , again this appear with the right margin terminating at the distal edge. This time however the distal edge right side, appears to have been snapped off, the piece remaining clean and sharp to the touch. The left part of the distal edge is slightly concave in appearance. The le…

Triangular shaped piece of dark grey coloured flint with lighter grey inclusions. The dorsal face appears uneven with a prominent ridge running from the left margin below the medial to the right margin just above the proximal corner. Above the ridge the surface of the material slopes downs toward the distal point ad right margin in a concave pattern, The right margin appears to have been subject to some slight retouch possible micro denticulation, the left margin appears devoid of any retouch, while the proximal edge appears to have been broken or snapped, the edge looking clean bu…

Translucent light browny/grey coloured piece of flint, appears to be a microlith. The dorsal face exhibits a single prominent medial ridge along the right side of the face, while there also appears to be a secondary ridge on the left side. The dorsal face exhibits the signs of core removal with a blade gouge in the medial. The proximal edge appears to have been snapped, the edge remaining sharp implying recent damage. The distal edge appears to have been blunted, the right margin is sharp enough to act as a blade edge, while the left margin appears more truncated , if the piece had…

Triangular shaped piece of dark grey coloured cherty flint. The texture of the material appears rougher than the glassy appearance of flint. The dorsal face is rounded in appearance, no negative marks or indents on the surface. The right margin is smooth in appearance with rounded edges, terminating at the joint with the distal edge, which appears more blade like and narrower. The distal edge also appears to exhibit some serration along its edge, but this is slight and could be attributed to natural action. The left margin appears straight and could have been snapped off or broken…

This piece is a scalene triangle with the proximal end probably at the point, but this is hard to tell in the absence of ripples or bulb. The ventral face has no retouch. The dorsal face has long parallel retouch to create a serrated edge. The flint is tan in colour. It is probably derived from a local beach pebble by the look of its secondary cortex. Mercer (1981) illustrates a similar piece on Page 111 Fig 49 No L3 which he calls a geometric scalene triangle microlith and dates to the Mesolithic period.

Flint microlith, needle-like in plan and profile, and sub-triangular in section. On the dorsal face there is retouch to the left of the medial ridge and along the left margin. It is snapped at the proximal end. The flint is amber coloured and is tertiary because of the absence of cortex. Bond (2004) has a similar microlith on page 104, Figure 5.88, Number 93.

Flint microlith, half an oval in plan, bi-convex in section. The distal end has been snapped. On the dorsal face the right margin is serrated with fine retouch. There are tiny, sharp points at the proximal end. The left margin is scalloped or denticulated. The flint is grey and it is tertiary because of the absence of cortex. It appears to be an edge-blunted point. Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 114, Figure 5.98, Number L35.

This tiny flake has been snapped at the distal end. The ventral face has a bulb and a scar, but no retouch. The dorsal face ha sa flattened medial ridge with semi-abrupt flake removals to either side. Each margin has been retouched to create a jagged, sharper edge. The piece is made from a dark grey flint, translucent grey at the margins. It is probably derived from a local beach pebble but this is difficult to confirm with only tertiary cortex. Mercer (1981) illustrates a similar piece on Page 111 Fig 49 No L2 which he calls a microlith and dates to the Mesolithic.

This bladelet has no retouch on the ventral face. The dorsal face has a flattened medial ridge with pressure flaked removals towards each margin making sharp edges. The right margin is retouched by abrupt "nibbling". The piece is made from a translucent brown flint. It is probably derived from a local beach pebble but this is difficult to confirm with only tertiary cortex. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar piece on Page 97 Fig 37 No 11 which he calls a straight backed bladelet and dates to the Mesolithic.

This tiny flake is snapped at the dorsal right proximal to central point. Its dorsal face has been thinned by invasive retouch. The left dorsal margin has semi-abrupt retouch to sharpen it along its whole rounded length. The ventral face has no obvious retouch. on the margin above the snapped length is a notch, probably from use wear. This could have been a piskey's arrowhead. The piece is made from a dark grey to brown flint. It is probably derived from a local beach pebble but this is difficult to confirm with only tertiary cortex. Flint microlith, needle-like in plan. On the dorsal face the right margin is backed with abrupt retouch. There is a point at the distal end and it is fractured at the proximal end. The left margin is sharp. There are patches of gloss on the ventral face. The flint is pale grey and the absence of cortex means that it is classed as tertiary. Bond (2004) shows a similar microlith on page 104, Figue 5.88, Number 93.

Flint microlith on a flake that is sub-rectangular in plan but tapering towards the proximal end, and bi-convex in section. It has been snapped at the distal end. On the dorsal face it has a sharp right margin, possibly for use as a saw. The proximal end has been tapered for hafting. The flint is pale grey and has secondary cortex, and it is likely to have derived from a local beach pebble. Bond (2004) shows a similar microlith on page 109, Figure 5.93, Number 60.

This tiny fan shaped piece has been retouched to sharpen the wide distal end by pressure flaking from the proximal end which is fatter and has a light grey inclusion. The flat dorsal face has a removal towards its left margin, which may have been the result of later damage. This may not be a microlith, but a piece of fortuitously shaped debitage. The piece is made from a dark grey flint with light grey inclusions. It is probably derived from a local beach pebble but this is difficult to confirm from its tertiary cortex. Mercer illustrates a similar piece on Page 111 Fig 49 No L7.
