Object type: AWL
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Probably an exhausted core which now looks like a heavy, chunky flake. Modified after use as a core to make an awl or piercer by retouching the right hand side towards a natural point. There is a notch on the left hand upper margin which has been worked, but the indentation on the right hand side is probably a natural formation and used to make the flake into an awl. The flake has a flat base.
The flint is a dense light/medium grey colour and was likely derived from a local beach pebble.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Triangular, pyramid shaped chunk of flint with two edges trimmed with serration towards the point to form an awl. A strongly defined medial ridge with the possible thinning of the face either side to provide backing for use as an awl or using the trimmed edge. Signs of use wear on each side of medial ridge with scratches in the gloss. The base is concave and the point appears to be natural, used as a piercer/awl/borer. The ventral side is flat.
The flint is a dense medium grey colour and was likely derived from a local beach pebble.

Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A notched flake which might have been used as a graver. It has been snapped or broken at left hand upper edge. There are signs on the dorsal face that it has been heat treated/burnt. No cortex can be seen. Ventral side is concave and could have been thinned to provide backing for using the flake as an edge trimmed flake.
The flint is a dark brown/grey colour and was likely derived from a local beach pebble.

Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A thick flake of dark grey flint with opaque cream inclusions, struck with a hard hammer from a pebble. It truncates some previous scars as though it has removed part of the flaking face of a flake core. This may have been for rejuvenation as there is an uncompleted hard hammer removal on the dorsal surface. The ventral surface has been thinned by 2 strikes which have ended in step fractures. This has been used as a platform to remove a sharp notch from the left margin. Butler(2005) illustrates a notched flake on page 169, fig 71, 8.
