Greenstone cupped cobble. It has been broken in the past into two halves; one of which was found. The break facet bisects a deep bell shaped depression with a coarse pecked finish. The top surface is pecked smooth with a few flake scars around the outside to shape it circular. The base of the stone has a smooth ground shallow concave depression. It has an irregular sharp edged perimeter and the surrounding stone is uneven and rough. The collar is quite substantial at about 12 mm deep and 9 mm thick, and there is quite a deep indented area below it before the body of the axe begins with a raised ridge. Along this ridge at one side of the axe is the remains of the base of the side loop, which has worn into a point. Flint flake, elongated ovoid in plan and splinter shaped in profile. The dorsal side has a convex surface with a central mesial ridge. The distal end is blunt and the proximal end both snapped and abraded. The right margin has a serrated edge and the left margin a notch worked mid way. On the ventral side there is a visible bulb of percussion by the proximal end with small flake removal. The flint is semi translucent and fawn with an opaque oatmeal tip in colouring. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 186, Fig. 76, No. 10 which is dated to the Bronze Age period.
