Obverse description: Crowned shield of Arms of Scotland between 6 and 8. A few characters have partially spalled from the flan.

Reverse description: Ornate cross with floral or vegetal ends with alternate thistles and crowns in its angle.
Reverse inscription: +SALV[??].FAC.POPVLVM.TVVM.DNE 1572

Silver coin. The finder suggests this is a Thistle Merk of James VI of Scotland (1567-1625), issue of 1601-1604, 8th coinage of James VI (Seaby 1972 page 78 is an apt illustration), however the reverse legend does not conform to published examples.
Obverse description: Lion rampant left on crowned shield.

Reverse description: Crowned thistle. Clipped with loss of inscription.
