The coin is in poor condition, badly chipped around the edge and missing about 40% of the field and inscription. Its weight (0.7g) would be consistent with a penny of this type.

A copper alloy coin that looks like an imitation of an Early Medieval silver penny of Aethelred I (865 - 871). Only half of the coin survives. The front shows a bust right, the body and arms interrupting the legend which reads [AE](Đ)ELRED[...]. The reverse is a lunette enclosing the top line of the legend which reads: MON / (M)AN(N) / [INC]. Compare North number 622. It is not clear whether this is a contemporary imitation or a modern replica. It has been referred to Early Medieval coin specialists and this record will be updated with their opinions.
