An incomplete copper-alloy Roman trumpet brooch dating to the late first or second century AD. The brooch comprises a characteristic trumpet head. A small lug extends from the head, which appears to be complete, rather than representing the remains of a head loop. The trumpet head conceals an integrally cast loop which would originally have held the axis bar, spring and pin in place. The bow extends from the head and is oval in section and arched. Fragment of probable Middle or Late Bronze Age gold sheet strip or ribbon ornament decorated on one face with nine longitudinal grooves. One end has been chopped obliquely, while the other is apparently complete and slightly convex. Length at least 16mm. Width 8.5 - 9mm. Thickness 0.4mm. Weight 0.86g.
