A complete Post Medieval copper alloy hooked strap fitting possibly from a sword belt. This fitting has a flat body that is triangular (kite shaped) in plan, with a lobe at the top. The tapered hook is oval in cross section and is bent in the same plain as the body (turned to the observers left, in the same plane as the body). There are the stumps of two square section iron rivots, one above the other along the central axis of the body. These would have held the fitting to the leather belt. The fitting is undecorated, and red brown in colour with patches of light green corrosion. Ther…

A corroded cast copper-alloy medieval bar mount, small and sub-hemispherical in form. The central lobe features four deep transverse lines, within which finer longitudinal incisions, all quiet crude. One of the two smaller, angled perforated side lobes retains their rivet; they are recessed on the lower surface. The object is similar to artefacts illustrated in Read (2001, 23; fig. 12) and Egan and Pritchard (1991, 214; fig. 134) which are dated to the second half of the fourteenth century. This artefact has corroded to a dull, dark-grey colour with patches of lighter corrosion product.

A flat sheet copper-alloy lozengiform mount (strap fitting) of medieval date. The upper surface is decorated with an incised rockerarm saltire within a lozengiform border. There are two rivets holes located just above the horizontal division of the mount. The artefact now has a variable green patina largely overlying dull red-brown colour metal. A mount with this decoration can be found illustrated in Read (2001, 17; ref. 124), although it is thought safer to offer a wider date range than that suggested by the author. A similar artefact is depicted in Bailey (2004, 95; ref. 12.14) and…

A cast, copper-alloy, strap slide of the Post-Medieval period.
The strap slide is sub rectangular in plan, with slightly rounded corners, and a inverted 'U' profile. It has a nearly complete patinated surface of mid green colour and preservation is good.
The outside face of the object is decorated with a raised, central bar, with a dog tooth stylised border. The obverse is undecorated with two sub rectangular pillars, one at either end. The pillars contain rectangular iron plugs which are likely the remains of an attachment arrangement with further iron staining to the rear of t…

A complete but corroded cast copper-alloy 13th- or 14th-century medieval bar-mount with pendent loop. The pendent has been bent up such that it now abuts the bar mount and the two are now corroded together where they meet. The upper surface of the bar mount is rectangular in plan with bevelled sides. It is riveted on to a sheet loop which narrows at its base and is folded back on itself, terminating in a squared off stop which has a punched hole which is joined to the front section of bar (and, originally, through the belt) by a single copper-alloy rivet which survives. A rivet hole a…

A tiny fragment probably from a Medieval (1350-1400) copper alloy D-shaped strap loop or strap slide with a collared knop extending from the centre of the curved edge. The fragment could also be froma buckle of the same style.
Compare WILT-B50C96 which cites a buckle in Egan 1991 (p.94 no.421) which is mentioned as part of a set with two matching strap slides in Hume 1863 (plate X no.6). This is dated to the late 14th century.

Medieval copper alloy looped strap fitting, c.1350-1400 AD. The fitting has a trapezoid front with straight sides and a narrower base than top. The base continues into an integral circular loop which curves forward than back. At the back the strip that forms the loop continues up to form the back which is narrower than the front but also widens towards the top and is almost the same length. There is a hole through the front and back near the top, the one on the back holds the remains of a separate copper alloy rivet. There is an indented line across the front at the junction with the …

A cast copper-alloy strap loop of probable Medieval date. It is trefoil shaped in form, rectangular in section and with beveslled edges. The top of the three lobes is slightly flattened and shows possible signs of use-wear. It measures 13.52mm in length, 15.04mm in width, 1.93mm in thickness and 1.19g in weight. This is probably a decorative strap fitting or loop, similar to a quatrefoil example from London (Egan and Pritchard, 1991: no. 1189. It is of probable Medieval date, c.14th-15th centuries AD.
