A Roman cast copper alloy mount, possibly a harness fitting or furniture mount. The mount is in the form of an eagle with the eagles slightly folded outwards with the tips of the wings touching the feet. The head is protruding and facing outwards. Between the feet the eagle has a small spherical ball between which has two lentoid notches which may be intentional or accidental damage. The body and upper legs are covered with linear notches forming columns '\/' which slightly overlap. The wings have columns of linear notches arranged as '=' with longer linear grooves depicting the folds…

Cast copper alloy mount or possibly lock pin dating from the Roman period, that is c. AD43-410. Only half of the object remains and the edges are worn smooth suggesting that the original break is ancient. The complete head was circular in shape with crescentric moulded grooves and a large lip around the central projection on the obverse. There is another projection on the reverse, but that is far more worn and could have been an attachment loop/shaft or similar.

A incomplete copper alloy anthropomorphic mount in the shape of a human head with probable Roman date. The object is convex and largely oval in shape with a rectangular protrusion coming from the 'chin' end of the face. The protrusion has been broken and an unknown quantity remains. The features of the face have all but been worn away, but it is possible to depict a raised nose and incised eyes. The back of the object is hollow, with a large amount of interior corrosion. The metal is green in colour and the object weighs 12.6g and measures 30.58mm in length, 18.02mm in width and 11.65…

A cast copper alloy military harness mount of 2nd century AD date. S-shaped in plan and symmetrical, each terminal is in the shape of an openwork triangular head, with a ring-and-dot eye in the trinagular 'snout'. The form is similar to dragonesque brooches of earlier date, and reminiscent of dolphin-headed buckles of a similar date. The reverse is flat, and the object is D-shaped in section. A hole 2mm in diameter is placed at the top of each head. One is closed through iron corrosion, suggesting iron rivets held the mount to the leather (?) strap. David Williams, FLO fro Surre…

Cast copper alloy mount in the shape of a bird, possibly an eagle, possibly dating from the Roman period, that is c. AD43-410. The mount is very worn and even though the upper surface still shows some details, most of the surface shows abbrasions and a flaky patina. The shape of the bird is retain well, however: it sits on a small pedestal that terminates in a small rivet. The bird sits quietly, with its wings half spread. The tail is slightly fan-shaped and the winds large and round. Moulded feathers are visible on the upper and underside of the wings. The bird's neck is thick and lo…

Apparently complete but worn cast copper alloy decorative plaque, possible belt fitting or mount of Roman date. The plaque (or plate) is sub-rectangular in plan and has a convex section profile from left to right. The back is plain but the front is decorated with the raised image of a boar running right. The boar is lacking detail but the eye, tusk, legs, tail & mane are all defined. The boar is closely framed within a rectangle of running diagonal lines which loosely gives the impression of a twisted rope border. The design and artefact are both very roughly executed with no fine…

The circular part has indications of possible attachment points in the form of circular indentations which may represent the edges of a large rivet or patch of solder.
