A cast copper alloy, openwork mount, probably of medieval date, AD1200-1500. It is rectangular in shape and concave on the underside but with semi-circular ends. The decoration on the upper side is divided into two parts, each occupying half of the mount. In the upper half is a forward facing, standing male figure, wearing a belted robe and possibly holding a staff in the right hand. He may also hold a sword in the right hand, or it could be a fold of his robe. In the lower half is a zoomorphic figure advancing to the left. It would be orientated correctly if the standing ma…

Medieval copper alloy mount with enameling. The very small mount is lozenge shaped and flat with a raised biorder and a recessed centre inside which is a raised fleur de lis. the recessed area is filled with the remains of blue enamel, some degraded. A dot of red on the fleur de lis is probably corrosion rather than enamel and it was probably originally gilded as on the French and English arms (from 1340 AD). The back is plain. There are circular holes through the mount at the top and bottom points The upper one still has the seperate copper alloy rivet through it. It is 13.5mm long b…
