Two Rim sherds. Greyware. From the necks of large jars with everted rims, the larger being of estimated rim diameter 280mm. Suggested date: Roman, 40-400. These sherds were kindly identified by Helen Fry and Sandra Firth of the North Lincolnshire Pottery Research Group.

Rim sherd from a Roman greyware jar. The jar has an everted rim with rounded upper edge and outer side. After a short neck constriction it starts to expand out into the body with a regular, curved, expansion. The jar was c.160mm in external diameter and c.120mm in internal diameter are the constriction. The sherd has a mix of abraded and fresh breaks 31.61 grams.

A fragment of a post medieval Frechen stoneware jar or bottle. The fragment contains the part of the wall of the jar, including part of a horizontal rim. It is salt-glazed internally and externally. It measures 49.3mm (length) x 39.6mm (width) x 6.9mm (thickness) and weighs 21.22g.
Frechen stoneware dates to c.17th century AD.
